Frequently Asked Questions

What types of sessions do you offer?
Rachelle Yakubu Photography specializes in newborn photography.  We also love to photograph babies, children, and expecting mother’s.

When should I book a session?
Newborn sessions typically book about 4-12 weeks (sometimes even earlier!) in advance and approximately 4 weeks in advance for regular portrait sessions. We always try to accommodate everyone into our schedule when possible!

When should I pay the Session Fee? What is included?
A retainer is due along with your completed Session Agreement to book your session.  If Agreement & Payment are not received, your session date/time frame will be free for another to reserve.  All session pricing can be found via the tab.  We also offer a very popular Baby Plan!

What happens after I book a session?
After you contact us to set up a session, you should complete the Session Agreement as well as pay the non-refundable retainer to officially book your session on our calendar.  Once these items are completed, you will have access to an online guide with information on how to prepare for your session, what to expect, what to wear, etc.  We will then decide on a time and location – Recommendations can be made.

Where does the session take place?
Newborn sessions take place in your home where you will have our collection of newborn props, hats, headbands, wraps, backdrops, blankets, etc.  Portrait sessions can take place anywhere outdoors! We can suggest some of our favorite locations or we can go somewhere that is special to you.  Please contact Rachelle Yakubu Photography regarding possible travel charges if your desired location is outside of the Lake Norman/Charlotte area. During the winter & cold months, we limit our schedule to only photographing newborns and sessions for babies and toddlers, which are all held indoors.

What time of day do sessions take place?
Newborn sessions typically take place in the morning &  afternoon –we use natural light, so that must be taken into consideration when scheduling.  It is VERY rare that we ever have to reschedule a studio session due to low light situations. It is highly recommend to schedule outdoor sessions in the evening, approximately 1-2 hours before sunset when the light is soft and beautiful.  Mid-day sun is very harsh, which limits us to photographing only in the shade.  Just about all of the outdoor sessions on our website were photographed in the evening!

How long does the session last?
A typical newborn session lasts anywhere from 2-4 hours, which is plenty of time needed for rocking, feeding, etc. Every newborn is different – Some sleep peacefully the entire session while others take a little more time, patience and feedings.   Newborn sessions are not rushed and we will take as much time as needed to ensure we have captured beautiful photos.   Baby and Maternity sessions typically last anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours.

What happens after our session?
Approximately 1-3 weeks after your session, you will receive a password to view your personal online session gallery.  You are more than welcome to share the password with your friends &  family.   The online gallery will be active for 7 days.  If needed, you may extend the gallery for an additional 3 days for $25.   You will also receive e-mailed web-sized; watermarked images of any photos you order; These are perfect for sharing on Facebook, e-mailing, showing off online, etc.
